Review: The Indulging Series Box Set by DL Raver

I feel like I should say: while my blog post itself does not contain any graphic sexual content, this book series does. This is a review for a book series that is for mature audiences, and therefore is likely unsuitable for minors.

I originally wrote this review for Goodreads and Netgalley, and am posting it here now. This was provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review.

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I may be the outlier here, but I found myself eyerolling quite a bit while reading these two books. It was sexy, I guess, but the characters all felt really cartoonish and one-dimensional to me, and I felt like Irelyn and Zolt's relationship was problematic in certain ways - she insisted that she didn't "belong" to Marcus, but she was very quick to say "I'm yours!" to Zolt. I guess it's okay to let a man possess you if he's hot and good in bed? And Zolt had quite a number of neanderthal moments - I know it's part of his character flaws, but there were moments when it was ambiguous whether we were supposed to just accept it, or whether we were supposed to hold him accountable (because Irelyn didn't seem to call him out on it nearly enough). I felt like Marcus should have had a mustache so that he could twirl it, that's how cartoonishly evil he was.

I wish the story had ended at "Two months later," because everything after that felt pretty contrived. Zolt becomes NFL commissioner? His son leads his team to a Superbowl victory? The NFL decides to care about protecting women? Oh please.

I did keep reading it to see how the story would turn out, and I appreciate the plot twists, so it wasn't SO bad that I had to give up reading it, but like I said, I eyerolled so much. It was okay, I guess. As I said, I'm aware that I'm the outlier with the unpopular opinion, since so many people on Goodreads loved these two books, but gah... it just didn't click with me. Sorry.
